Dread
A downloadable game
There were many ways the world could’ve ended. Global warming. War. Even a stray meteor. But once they showed up, all those concerns became moot.
They come in countless different forms, and are called by just as many names- old ones, angels, witches, vertexes, the alone- but most call them dark matter.
How do you fight dark matter, you ask? Don’t. They are completely unknown creatures that defy all science. But they do appear to have one weakness- hope.
Dread is a stupidly simple solo rpg about fighting whatever weird creatures made of nebulous evil darkness you can dream up. It is inspired by Madoka, Evangelion, Lovecraft, Kirby, etc. This is essentially a very homebrewed version of my Passions and Fears system, and is in the playtesting/idea phase. Or at least in the “I don’t have a professional looking rulebook for it yet” phase. The rules document right now contains some rules and ideas, an oracle for making eldritch monsters, and a brief example session. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
To play it you need a lot of d6s, because you'll be building a dice tower. I use a 3x3x4 container of Chessex mini dice; if you use larger d6s you might need higher damage values and more dice to compensate. For reference I can stack about 10-12 of my dice on average.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy it! Like PnF this game will remain free. If I develop it further I’ll post updated rules on this page. If I get tired of it I’ll hopefully post a devlog talking about possible future directions or flaws in the game.
